USB is a universal external interface for a variety of peripheral devices, e.g. keyboard, mouse, modem, printer, microphone, loudspeaker, camera or scanner. USB knows only one connector type for all devices on the host side, so that confusion of interfaces is impossible. USB has also quickly established itself as the standard interface in industry. The transfer rates of up to 12 MBit/s are sufficient to operate many industrial applications.
