USB 4.0 is the successor of USB 3.2 as well as Thunderbolt 3. USB 4.0 inherited the ability to support various other protocols such as DisplayPort, PCI Express or host-to-host transfers from Thunderbolt, which is one of the big advantages over USB 3.2. The different data is tunneled and transmitted in packets over the same data line.
