Point-of-load step-down converters have long been much more than just "three-legged friends". They can handle currents up to the three-digit ampere range with high efficiency, are available with input voltages up to almost 100 V and also in SMD housings. In addition, the output voltages of many models can be trimmed and switched off via control voltage.
