The design of a monitor with a projected capacitive touch screen (PCAP) is a complex issue. The possible freedoms in design challenge designers and engineers. The integration differs significantly from previously used technologies such as resistive touchscreens. The measuring method is based on smallest changes in the capacitance of the sensor, therefore disturbances that could influence the capacitance must be excluded or at least minimized. As a consequence, each system has to be considered individually and already during the design process some rules have to be considered to achieve the best possible performance. The task of this white paper is to exclude possible sources of problems, explain different installation variants and select the right components. In the completely revised version, we have incorporated the experience of our experts from the fields of technology, design and sales over the last few years.
