Der Vortex86DX ist ein x-86-kompatibler System-on-Chip (SoC) in einem 90nm Prozess hergestellt und entwickelt mit einem Stromverbrauch von weniger als 1 Watt. Er integriert verschiedene Funktionen wie multiple I/O Ports (RS-232, Parallel, USB und GPIO), BIOS, Watch Dog Timer, Power Management, MTBF-Counter und LAN in ein einzigen BGA-Chip.
In seinem 581-Pin BGA Gehäuse packt der Vortex86DX 32kb L1 cache, 256KB L2 cache, PCI rev. 2.1 32-bit/33MHz, DDR2-RAM-Controller, IPC (Internat PeripheralControllers mit DMA und Interrupt Timer/Counter inclusive), Fast Ethernet MAC, FIFO UART, USB 2.0 Host und IDE-Cntroller. Damit bietet er die optimaleLösung für Embedded-Systeme und Kommunikationsprodukte wie Thin Clients, NAT-Router, Home-Gateway, Access Points und Tablet-PCs.
